From Lurker to Maker

In her insightful article titled “How I Went from Indie Lurker to Indie Hacker,” Lynne Tye aptly captures the journey of many, myself included, who have spent far too long observing from the sidelines. As I approach a decade of lurking, I find myself eager to break free from this habit rather than mark it as a milestone worth celebrating.

Why: The relentless grind of corporate life has worn me down. The corporate structure, with its communal hierarchy at the top and social dynamics at the bottom, no longer resonates with me.

What: With a background in software engineering, I possess the skills to develop apps.

How: My strategy is to concentrate on creating micro apps that can be conceptualized, developed, and shipped within a month.

Short-term Goal: One of my aims for this year is modest but meaningful—to earn just $1 from the internet.

Long-term Goal: My ambition is to launch an app every month. Within three years, this would result in 36 micro apps. While it’s possible that one of these apps could eventually replace my income from a full-time job, at the very least, this endeavor will open doors to pursue what I truly enjoy: coding and problem-solving.

First Idea: Recently, while playing rummy with friends, we found ourselves without pen and paper to keep score. After searching for apps to fulfill this need, we came up short—none of the available options satisfied our requirements or had a decent design. The idea for my first micro app “Rummy Scorer” was born.

Progress so far:

  • Secured the domain www.rummyscorer.com
  • Backend Development: I’m learning and implementing a sustainable architecture using Asp.Net Core Web Api, following the guidance provided by Code Maze’s book. This journey has introduced me to a multitude of architectural patterns.
  • Frontend Development: I’m also learning and implementing a sustainable architecture using React, Typescript, and Tailwind Css for front end development. Maximilian Schwarzmüller’s “React – The Complete Guide 2024” has proven to be an invaluable resource.

It’s time to stop lurking and start creating. Let’s make something happen!
