Stop copying someone’s routine blindly

When we read about someone successful, we tend to think what worked for them will work for us. What we forget is, that the circumstance and the situation they were in were different than the one we are in. Their routine may not work for our situation.

Take for example this tweet from Dickie Bush.

The minute I saw this tweet, I immediately started thinking about how to make three hours first thing in the morning to work on my side project. I did not consider what my mornings look like. I did not think about my kids and family. All I wanted was to emulate Dickie’s advice.

I get Dickie’s point of working on the high-leverage project first thing in the morning. But I should not force myself to follow this advice without considering my family and my situation.

Our brain is tuned to accept and copy successful people. We need to pause and ask ourselves if their routine or advice will work for our circumstances.
